SUCCESS STORY. VADYM, 52
BLOOM Programme Case
Vadym is an engineer with many years of experience in gas supply, heating systems, and
ventilation. For most of his professional life, he worked on technical solutions for residential and
industrial facilities. After the start of the full-scale war, his family was forced to relocate to Dnipro.
The apartment they left behind was located near a military facility and had no accessible shelter,
making safety a primary concern.
The relocation meant not only a change of residence, but also new professional challenges. The
construction and engineering sectors have undergone significant transformation: there is a shortage
of skilled workers, higher demands for energy efficiency, and an increasing need for fast and
modern technical solutions. Vadym clearly understood that in order to remain competitive, he
needed to strengthen his skill set.
With this goal in mind, he joined the BLOOM Programme. During the training, Vadym mastered
SketchUp for 3D visualisation of engineering systems, learned how to create models of ventilation
and heating systems for client presentations, and gained practical experience using digital tools to
optimise calculations.
“Today, it is important not only for clients to hear a technical explanation, but also to see the
solution. A 3D model significantly increases trust and speeds up approvals,” he explains.
These new skills have already led to tangible results: Vadym expects an increase in the number of
orders and higher income, as he is responsible for supporting his family. He now works in a broader
capacity — from technical concept development to visual project presentation.
With the support of the BLOOM consortium — Swisscontact, Mercy Corps, the International
Rescue Committee (IRC), and Right to Protection (R2P) — together with local partners GERZ
Construction Association LLC and the Educational Alliance for Ukraine (EAUA), Vadym sees the
next step as scaling his practice and contributing to reconstruction projects using modern
technologies.
“Experience is the foundation. But today, it is difficult to compete without digital tools. The
training has given me confidence that I am moving in the right direction,” says Vadym.
