SUCCESS STORY. ANASTASIIA, 18, IDP
BLOOM Programme Case
Anastasiia is just 18 years old and is completing her studies at a vocational lyceum, specialising
as a decorative painter. During her studies, she realised that her profession could play an important
role in the construction sector — especially in the context of the country’s recovery.
“I don’t just want to work — I want to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine,” says Nastia.
To strengthen her competitiveness, she joined the innovative construction training programme. For
her, it became a real transition from artistic craftsmanship to technical design.
At first, working with digital tools seemed challenging, but her artistic mindset quickly became an
advantage. Nastia learned how to translate ideas from sketches into digital models, mastered 3D
modelling in SketchUp, understood the principles of modern design and housing reconstruction,
and gained knowledge of energy-efficient materials.
“When I realised that I could not only draw an idea but also model it in a three-dimensional space,
I felt a real breakthrough,” she shares.
The result of the training was her first independent project — a concept for a modern housing
reconstruction solution using energy-efficient materials. For an 18-year-old graduate, this is not
just a training assignment, but the first step towards building her professional portfolio.
With the support of the BLOOM consortium — Swisscontact, Mercy Corps, the International
Rescue Committee (IRC), and Right to Protection (R2P) — together with local partners GERZ
Construction Association LLC and the Educational Alliance for Ukraine (EAUA), Anastasiia now
feels much more confident in the labour market. She combines artistic vision with digital design
tools, opening up new opportunities in finishing and design-related roles.
“I’m no longer afraid to start. I know what I can do and where I want to go,” she says.
In the near future, she plans to find employment in her field and, in the longer term, continue her
education in design and construction engineering.
